I seen a 75 years old air compressor tank rust thru pin holes around the mounting feet where it was welded.
Rusty water in air compressor tank.
Is it normal to.
When a compressor draws in air the air is compressed to about 12 times normal atmospheric pressure.
The bottom is a bit thicker rust but the reddish stain where water sat on the bottom was pretty small so they must have drained it regularly in this florida humidity.
It just ran a lot.
I keep a bucket in the garage that i drop rusty.
Pressurized air is not able to hold as much water.
Not a whole lot but it the color that worries me.
Not knowing the last time or how often the tank was drainind i drained it out the other day and a rust color like slude water came out.
Just a guess here as i have never tried it on a compressor tank but i use evapo rust to remove rust from my tools.
25 january 2017 many air compressors have tanks that have to be filled with water while the machine is in use.
An air compressor works by squeezing air into a smaller volume under high pressure.
As the pressure increases water vapor condenses back into a liquid.

It works quit well and it is reusable.
Evapo rust only attacks rust so it is safe to use.
My uncle gave me a small pancake air compressor for my garage and to use around my house.
